Another product of the workshop I took in British Columbia. This one became a “happy accident.” We had been making geli prints on various types of paper and I decided to use one as the background for this piece. Our instructions were to find some natural materials and use them to make an impression, so I focused on the leaves (needles) of this particular tree (I really should find out what the species was, but Google AI is no help at all). After embedding the background, I made an impression with the leaf and then filled it in with oil pigments. I liked this piece so much, I entered it in the State Fair Fine Arts show (a highly competitive juried event) when I got home. I wasn’t too shocked or disappointed when it wasn’t chosen, because I knew that would give me the opportunity to exhibit it at the Douglas Flanders & Associates “State Fair Reject Show.”
