This glass mosaic was the result of a class I took at the Edina Art Center. It reminded me how much I love mosaics. They are putzy and messy, which is probably why I don’t undertake them easily, but I love bringing broken pieces together to make an image. (I rarely cut pieces to a specific shape, but prefer to wing it.)
My first mosaic was a bird bath (go big or go home!) that I made with shattered plates and tiles. I discovered (much to my dismay) that plates and porcelain can’t be used for outside projects in Minnesota. The freeze/thaw cycle made the surface of the plates crack off. I don’t have any photos of my completed birdbath, but the people that bought our house still have it in their front yard (using it as a planter).
